SHARK CARTILAGE PREVENT CANCER AND OTHER DISEASES DEGENERATIVE

The shark is probably one of the oldest animals and healthier for all living beings that inhabit the earth. But what catches the attention of researchers, is how this being a pre-historic animals, its skeleton is made up entirely of cartilage tissue and has not gone through a complete process of calcification as if it has happened with other more advanced creatures such as fish and man also has a very effective and powerful immune system, linked with their cartilaginous skeleton, making it virtually immune to many degenerative diseases including cancer affecting other living beings (Lane, 1996).

According to research conducted by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, shark skeleton represents about 6% to 8% of their total weight. The chemical composition of pure dry cartilage represents approximately 41% ash, 39% protein, 12% carbohydrate (of the type of mucopolysaccharides), 7% moisture, less than 1% fiber and less than 0.3% fat. Ashes are formed primarily by a 60% calcium and phosphorus, in a proportion of 2 parts calcium to 1 phosphorous, followed in decreasing order of sodium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron and iodine. Also reported traces of heavy metals of less than 10 ppm (Lane, 1996, 1992). The dried powder of shark cartilage is a natural product, which in addition to a nutritional supplement, a set ascribed beneficial properties in the prophylaxis and treatment of various diseases, especially in cancer therapy (Menendez Lopez J. 1994) .
According to studies carried out for over 30 years, shark cartilage exist antiangiogenic substance, ie that inhibits vascularization and this agent vascularization inhibitor which would control the development and spread of certain types of solid tumors. Later in another investigation, it was found that this important inhibitor is actually a macro-protein termed cartilage-derived inhibitor (CDI), which acts in combination with other synergistic substances having immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory effects such as hydrates mucopolysaccharides carbon (Chondroitin sulfate A and C) and immunoregulatory substances, which stimulate the immune system and also act against inflammation. Likewise, calcium and organic phosphorus are used by the body as nutrients, the same that regulate metabolism (Lane 1992)

According to the scientific theory of Dr. William Lane, author of the book published in 1992 "Sharks do not die of cancer" pioneer in the development of a shark cartilage therapy in humans, notes that the benefits of shark cartilage to treat cancer, arthritis and psoriasis, would be associated to the action of at least four complex proteins contained in the cartilage. These proteins appear to inhibit the development of new blood vessels in the process of tumor growth and development. The specialist also concerned that there might be other processes involved as inhibition of cell division and immune system stimulation (Lane 1992).

Studies on the benefits that entails the use of shark cartilage are voluminous and conclusive, it is said for example that shark cartilage would be very useful in the treatment of some chronic diseases that affect health such as cancer, osteo-arthritis and arthritis reumatoide.También says he has nerve growth regulatory action (Fernand-Espinoza and colbs 1994, Clements and colbs 1998), an analgesic and anti-inflammatory action were studied by Brazilian researchers (Fontenele JB and colbs  1997), also in Cuban trials shark cartilage for the treatment of refractory advanced cancer patients was observed pain relief in patients with prostate cancer and breast cancer metastases (Gomez and colbs EM 1996). Shark cartilage also has an antimutagenic action (Gomez MS and colbs 1996, Felzenwalb I and colbs1998 ) and activates the immune response (Menendez LJ 1994).

In conclusion we can say that shark cartilage is a natural product that goes beyond the context of its use as a nutritional supplement with multiple biological actions demonstrated, and it has great prospects for therapy of various diseases (Estévez BM , 2001)
